MAPPING 2013: Record of attendance for the ninth edition of the festival

Geneva, May 23rd, 2013 – After 10 days filled with workshops, installations, audiovisual performances and night events, the Mapping Festival team announces that the 9th edition of the festival reached new summits! Indeed, with 15,700 spectators, an increase of more than 52 % compared with last year, the Mapping Festival continues to show its relevance and to strengthen its role in Geneva and on the international scene.

The new formula in two phases established this year (workshops during the first part of the festival / audiovisual performances, projections and night events during the last 5 days of festival) pleased as much the public as the artists and the organisers, and allowed to bring to light the educational and collaborative side of the festival, while concentrating the artistic programming and the night activities on the last bank holiday weekend.

Artists, media, partners, volunteers and team members, everybody was unanimous to underline the high quality of the programming and the stage design, as much as the avant-gardism and international character of the festival.

The new Headquarters of the festival, settled in the Common of the Building of Contemporary Art, gathered the audiovisual installations, the bar Ping, the ticket office and the merchandising, and did not empty during 10 days, welcoming the exhibition opening of the installations on May 2nd (part of the Nuit des Bains), the Swiss Electronic Music after work on May 4th, roundtables as well as the performances of Nohista, RKO, Gangpol und Mit and Moritz Simon Geist.

The “High Voltage” event at the Kugler Foundry on Wednesday, May 8th, which unveiled the futuristic ball (which original structure Binah was created by local collective CENC) on which the participants of the “LED and video mapping” workshop had the opportunity to experiment during 4 days, will stay one of highlights of this year’s edition. While at the same moment, fans of Drum’n’Bass feasted during the Shogun Audio night, in a Zoo converted thanks to the exceptional work done by the participants of the “Stage Design” workshop.

Headliners did not disappoint during this 9th edition, in particular Alex Smoke’s new audiovisual project, Wraetlic, the exceptional raster noton showcase and the European premiere of ATOMTM’s new project, HD, the evening of architectural mapping on the main facade of the Museum of Art and History on Saturday, May 11th (part of the Nuit des Musées), the performances of Gangpol und Mit, Gulfstream and VJ MA, the Kid Mapping workshop presented by Joanie Lemercier from the ANTI VJ collective and the GLOBALE MAPPING closing night, with exemplary audiovisual live performances from Jon Hopkins and Clark, and the trio Cabanne-Sonja Moonear-Baby Ford taking over the decks at Zoo.

Organisers of the Mapping festival are extremely satisfied with this exceptional edition and would like to thank all of the artists, partners, volunteers, friends and suppliers  that have made this 9th edition possible. Resolutely forward-thinking, the Mapping Festival already looks forward to welcoming you in Geneva for its 10th edition, which will take place from May 22nd till June 1st, 2014.
